Don't you just love it when a word keeps cropping up in your life? That word for me is THRIVE! Since last fall (2013) it has consistently appeared in my daily devotionals, scripture passages, songs and most recently during the video teaching done by Beth Moore in the Children of the Day Bible study. It's as if The Holy Spirit has suddenly highlighted it, underlined it and put it in italics to get my attention. Perhaps the Holy Spirit's intention was to propel me out of “survival mode”, that at one time or another settles in on all of our lives.
I was greatly challenged by Beth's statement,"three groups are in operation at all times in a THRIVING body of believers." She went on to describe those three groups as WE, YOU and THEY. The group of WE represents those in the body of Christ who are fully surrendered mature believers. The group of YOU represents those who are actively growing into mature believers. The group THEY are those who are watching the WEs and YOUs. THEYs can be greatly affected by what they see and by what they don't see in the lives of the WEs and YOUs. This is a truth that should always be at the forefront of our words and actions. Whether we are aware of it or not, as Christ followers, His light is always shining in us- it's the shining out of our lives that we either hinder or surrender.
Ponder this: Whether you are a WE or a YOU, if there is no THEY there is no THRIVING. I challenge you this week to ask the Holy Spirit to grow your roots deep in Him so you can grow up and branch out to the THEYS around you and THRIVE! Ask Him to point out a THEY who just might be watching and waiting for a THRIVING relationship with Christ and His church.
Matthew 5:14 “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
I would love to get your comments on how you are THRIVING as a WE, YOU or THEY. I suspect that word, THRIVE, has been showing up on your radar too.
